Built a booking app, mostly smooth

I used Adalo to build a booking app for my small business. The visual canvas builder was intuitive, and I managed to connect a custom domain without much trouble. Setting up database collections for appointments took a little bit of trial and error, but the documentation helped. I opted for the annual billing to save some money. Delivery of the service, meaning access to the platform, was instant after payment. Publishing to iOS required a few extra steps outside of Adalo itself, which was expected but still a hurdle. Customer support responded within a day when I had a question about external data integrations, which was decent. Overall, the app is functional and looks good on both web and mobile.

Annual plan saved money

I was looking to build an app for a personal project and compared a few no-code options. Adalo's annual plan offered a decent discount, which made it much more affordable than paying monthly. I got access to all the features I needed for a basic web app, including custom domain hosting. The free trial let me test things out first, which was great for ensuring it met my requirements before committing. Felt like I got good value for what I paid.

Made a social media template app

So I decided to try Adalo to mess around and build one of those social media template apps, you know? It was actually pretty fun. The drag-and-drop stuff made it super easy to put things together. I even played around with the list components and image galleries. It definitely felt like I was making a real app, which was cool. No coding needed, which is exactly what I wanted.

Decent platform, some quirks

I signed up for Adalo to build a PWA for an internal tool. The visual builder is powerful, and I appreciate the range of components available, like form components and conditional visibility. Setting up user authentication was pretty straightforward, and the Stripe integration worked as advertised for some in-app purchases I tested. Publishing the PWA was quick. My only minor gripe was navigating some of the database relationships initially; it wasn't always immediately obvious how to link things effectively. However, once I got the hang of it, progress was steady. Value for money is good, especially with the annual discount.

Good for quick app builds

Used Adalo for a simple directory template. Drag and drop worked fine. Got the basic app running quickly. Publishing to web was straightforward. Met my needs without coding.

My app might get a lot of users eventually, what happens if I go over the record limit on my plan? Does everything just stop working?

A Andre P. 1 month ago
From what I remember, they contact you to let you know you're approaching the limit and suggest upgrading your plan. It's not like your app will just vanish, you'll have time to react.

They usually give you a heads up and an option to upgrade. It won't just shut down instantly.

I'm looking at Adalo vs. Bubble, anyone have experience with both? What are the main differences, like which one is easier or more powerful?

M Mia L. 1 month ago
Bubble is way more powerful for complex workflows and custom logic, but it has a steeper learning curve. Adalo is much faster to get something simple out there.

Adalo is super visual and easy to get started. Bubble can do more but it's a headache sometimes. Depends on what you're trying to build, honestly. If you need super custom stuff, Bubble. If you want a mobile app fast, Adalo.

Hey guys, thinking about Adalo for my app idea. Is it actually any good for making a native app? Or is it more for web stuff that just looks like an app?

T Todd S. 2 months ago
Yeah, it's pretty solid for native apps. I've got one in the App Store right now that I built with it. Works like a charm.

You can definitely do native with Adalo. I mean, it's not full-on coded native but it publishes to iOS and Android stores so it acts like one. For most things, it's plenty good.

Thinking about the free plan, what's actually included? Can I build a full app and test it out before paying?

T Tara Silva 1 month ago
You can definitely build and test a lot on the free plan. You won't be able to publish to the app stores though, that's where you hit the paywall.

Free plan lets you mess around and get a feel for it. You can build a pretty functional app, create a database, all that good stuff. Just no custom domains or app store publishing without upgrading.

Can you actually cancel your Adalo subscription whenever? Or do they lock you into a long-term thing?

S Sarah 1 month ago
Yep, you can cancel anytime. They don't make it difficult or anything.

E Elena Patel 1 month ago
I canceled my monthly plan once for a bit and then rejoined, no issues at all. Just know if you're on an annual plan, you pay for the year up front, so you can stop it renewing but you won't get a refund for the current year.

Is it worth paying for the annual plan to save some money, or is the monthly more flexible?

G Greg Walsh 1 month ago
If you're serious about your project, annual is a no-brainer. You save a good chunk.

C Cody 1 month ago
I switched to annual after a few months and saved like 20%. If you know you'll be using it for a year, it's definitely worth it financially. Monthly is good for just trying it out or short-term projects.

Does Adalo have any promo codes floating around? Or is it just the annual discount thing?

L Lisa 1 month ago
Mostly annual or special grants. Sometimes partners might have a specific code, but it's not like you find them everywhere online.
5
S Sam Marsh 1 month ago
I've never seen a general promo code. Usually, it's automatic if you choose annual billing, or you apply for a startup or non-profit thing. Black Friday might have something, but that's seasonal.

Does Adalo charge extra fees if I integrate with Stripe for payments in my app?

M Mia Walsh 1 month ago
Nope, Adalo doesn't charge anything on top of Stripe's own fees. It's just a connection.
6
S Sophie Nguyen 1 month ago
Your users will pay Stripe's standard transaction fees, but Adalo itself doesn't add any percentage on top of that. So, whatever Stripe charges, that's it.
